Starting point

Passo del Tonale - Bike Park

Directions

On the side of the road, close to the ticket office 'Adamello Ski' in Passo Tonale, there is a narrow road, some stretches of which are very steep, and which leads to Malga Cadi - Ospizio San Bartolomeo (This lodge was built in 1127, governed by a Prior, and gave shelter and refreshments to  passers by) crossing the brand new bike park, and in the direction of the Val di Sole, catch sight of the snow-capped mountains of the Presanella. A gentle downhill ride will bring you to the ruins of the ex Fort Mero (1.841 m asl) surrounded by larch trees, and together with the Forts Tonale, Strino, Zaccarana and Pozzi Alti (constructed at the end of the 1800’s and the beginning of the 1900’s) defended the region from the Hapsburg Empire by means of cannons, mortars and machine guns.  The road continues with a series of uphill and downhill tracts to the junction, where, to the left, you can climb up to the old Fort Zaccarana (circa 40 minutes - 2.026 m asl) located in a dominant position on the slopes of Mount Tonale Orientale. From here another descent, past the junction, and reaching Valle di Strino, from here an easy downhill ride until crossing a small road which takes you to Malga Strino. Another short gentle descent to the next junction where you take a left turn. After having crossed the Rio Strino, in the middle of the beautiful surrounding landscape of Adamello-Brenta, you will find yourself on the road which brings you to the start of the village of Vermiglio, which you can cross without using the main state road at all. At Cortina (a small hamlet, part of Vermiglio) you access a forest road which will take you to the bottom of the valley. The uphill, downhill stretch of road known as 'pendege' will take you to Fucine di Ossana. From here there is a cycle path to Commezzadura.
