Safety information

For snow hiking activities, follow these guidelines:

  • get good information about the route and its conditions before leaving. You can do this by contacting the nearest tourist information office;
  • the day before the hike, check the weather and avalanche risk level;
  • if you plan to reach a hut or a refuge, make sure they are open and, if you intend to stop for a meal or to sleep, call them in advance to book;
  • before leaving, if you don’t feel well, postpone the outing until you feel better;
  • never leave waste on the mountain and, if possible, avoid leaving it at the refuges or huts you visit;
  • if you spot wild animals along the route, please do not approach them, do not shout, and keep your dog on a leash to prevent it from instinctively chasing them and frightening them away.

Starting point

parking lot at the entrance of the road leading to Malga Dimaro

Directions

From the locality of Folgarida, continue on SS 239 towards Madonna di Campiglio. After about 3 kilometers from the Belvedere locality of Folgarida, at the junction leading to Malga di Dimaro, you will find on your right a snow-free area where you can park your car. Walk along the forest road for about 45 minutes to Malga di Dimaro (closed in winter), where we suggest a stop to enjoy the wide panorama of the Dolomites di Brenta, with the Sasso Rosso dominating this postcard view. Keeping the hut on your right, continue following the signs for Malga Vigo and then take the SAT trail no. 265 (the red and white one) slightly uphill, where the shadows and silence of the woods replace the great brightness of the snowy pasture of Malga Dimaro. Continue following the trail and after about an hour you will reach Baita Ciocomiti - Malga Vigo, where, besides a spectacular panorama of the Dolomites, you will find excellent typical dishes and the cheerfulness of the skiers who go along the Malghette slope, in the Campiglio Dolomiti di Brenta ski area.

After a pleasant break, return to the parking lot by retracing the same path.

Public transportation

You can reach Campo Carlo Magno or the Belvedere area of Folgarida with the MALÈ - FOLGARIDA - MADONNA DI CAMPIGLIO line (download the schedules for outbound and return), operated by Trentino Trasporti. To reach the junction for Malga di Dimaro, however, you will have to walk along the SS 239, where we invite you to be particularly careful of cars, which sometimes reach high speeds in this stretch. The distance at the start of the itinerary is 3 km if you get off at Folgarida Belvedere stop and about 2 km if you get off at Campo Carlo Magno, Genziana stop.

How to get there

From Val di Sole follow the SS42 to Dimaro and, at the roundabout, take SS 239 towards Folgarida - Madonna di Campiglio. In Folgarida stay on the state road and, after about 3 km past the Belvedere area of Folgarida, you will find the forest road that leads to Malga di Dimaro on your right. The road is not passable by cars in winter, so leave your car in the parking lot and continue on foot.

Where to park

In the parking lot on the right (coming from Folgarida), at the entrance of the forest road (not passable in case of snow) that leads to Malga di Dimaro
