Directions

EEA - Experienced Hikers with Equipment (Equipped Route for Experts)

Start from the Paradiso Cable Car parking lot in Tonale. From here take the cable car to Passo Paradiso (2,585m). A dirt road then leads to Lago del Monticello, where on the right is the SAT 44 trail which, after overcoming a series of rocky jumps, reaches Passo del Castellaccio (2,936m), where the "Via Ferrata" begins. Wearing appropriate mountain clothing and equipment, clip onto the first ropes and after a walk on semi-flat terrain you reach a tunnel carved into the rock; continuing for a few meters you encounter 2 metal bridges with lengths of 75m and 55m respectively. Alternatively, the bridges can be avoided by using the tunnel itself, which is 67m long.

From here the route continues on a slight slope and then uphill to reach the highest point, the "Corno di Lagoscuro" (3,160m), where the "Capanna Lagoscuro" is located, an unattended hut open only occasionally. Now the route descends towards Passo Lagoscuro (2,970m), where the "Via Ferrata" ends. During the Great War this was the site of a military village, of which some traces are still visible. From here, the road leads to SAT 209 which climbs to Passo Presena (2,997m), and the return to Passo Tonale by cable car.
