Loop route immersed in the Stelvio National Park that will take you to discover some lesser-known alpine lakes.
This medium-high difficulty itinerary will take you to discover some still little-known gems nestled among the mountains of the Ortles Cevedale Group. A route that crosses different high mountain environments and water courses will lead you to a first alpine lake called "Laghetti" located at 2237 meters elevation then to Lagostiel, another alpine lake with crystalline waters.
To face a mountain hike we suggest you:
From Peio Fonti you reach the locality Fontanino (1670m) where you leave your car (in summer months a shuttle bus service Stelviobus Peio is active). At the small bridge, take the SAT path 110 that reaches Lago di Pian Palù and follow it in its entire length to Malga Palù (1820m). Keeping the right side (orphographic), avoiding the small bridge over the Noce stream, you ascend along path 110 reaching in an hour the lake “Laghetti” (2240m). Take a break on its banks to admire its unique colors and the surrounding panoramas, then continue until you reach the footbridge and on the right, following SAT path 141A, continue in a loop reaching downhill the ruins of the Baiti di Villacorna. At this point, climb for about ten minutes to find the new footbridge on the Valpiana stream. From here, following the poles planted in the ground, you will reach the trail sign indicating the ascent towards Lagostiel (2455m) via SAT 141 and afterwards through the Fauna Path or descending towards Malga Paludei located at 2100m (a detour suggested if you feel tired). Both routes develop until Malga Giumella (1950m) with SAT signs 124 from where you return to Fontanino via a dirt road (124A).
Following the route to Lake Laghetti, it is also possible to reach another small alpine lake:
After passing Lake Laghetti and reaching the footbridge over the Noce River, it is possible to head left and follow the directions to the Laghetto della Vallumbrina. After passing a first flat stretch, the path becomes steeper and reaches a waterfall then finally arrives at the small lake, a little gem with light blue colors that will reward your effort.
You can reach Peio Fonti by line bus MALÈ - MEZZANA - FUCINE - COGOLO - PEIO (download schedules for going and returning). In summer months, to reach the parking lot at Fontanino with Stelviobus Peio (download the schedules).
Follow the SS42 to Fucine then turn right and follow SP87 to Peio Fonti and follow the signs to Fontanino.
You can leave the car at the Fontanino parking lot, while in summer months you can leave the car at Peio Fonti and reach Fontanino with the Stelviobus Peio shuttle bus service (download the schedules).
