Majestic scenery over the entire Ortles-Cevedale range and the Stelvio National Park. Cevedale is the meeting point of the mountains, which divide the Val de la Mare, the Val di Sole (Trentino), the Val Cedac in Valfurva (Lombardy) and Val Martello (Alto Adige).

Cevedale offers an immense panorama: all around the peaks, you can admire the glaciers, towards the northeast The Ortles and the Gran Zebrù, to the south-west the Palon de la Mare and Monte Vioz.

EEA - Escursionisti Esperti con Attrezzature (Expert Equipped Hike)

Starting point is the Malgamare car park, (1.972m) which can be reached from Cogolo di Pejo on an asphalted road (10 km). From the car park take the SAT 102 which flanks the Malgamare (2.301m) then climb through the pine-woods to the panoramic plain known as Pian Venezia (Stelvio National Park). From here the rifugio just comes into view and the path continues to the right of the valley until finally reaching Rifugio Cevedale G.Larcher (2.608m).

From the rifugio follow the SAT 103 on a slight descent until the crossroads where there is a sign indicating «Percorso dei Ghiacciai». Continue uphill until arriving to the glacier itself. From here, paying great attention to the many crevices, the trail winds its way in the direction of Monte Rosole. Just before Rosole follow the icy ridge to the right which leads directly to the cross on the peak of Monte Cevedale (3.679m).

Public transportation

The Verona-Brennero line to Trento and from there take the local Trento-Malè-Mezzana line to Val di Sole, from where there is a bus connection to all the villages. For times visit www.valdisole.net/EN/Public-Transportation

How to get there

FROM BOLOGNA-VERONA AND FROM BRENNERO
Coming from the south take the A22 motorway and exit at Trento Nord. Coming from the north exit at S. Michele all’Adige. Continue in the direction of Cles, Val di Non, Val di Sole and Val di Pejo. From Cogolo follow the signs to Malgamare along an asphalted narrow road until arriving to the car park.

FROM BERGAMO-BRESCIA
Take the SS42 to Tonale and then follow the signs to Ossana and Val di Peio. From Cogolo follow the signs to Malgamare along an asphalted narrow road until arriving to the car park.

Where to park

Malgamare car park (10 km from Cogolo)
Each climber must be in possession of rope, snap-hook and harness, ice axe, crampon and helmet. Waterproof clothing, both lightweight but warm (1st layer, in contact with the skin should be in polypropylene, 2nd layer insulating wool, and a 3rd waterproof layer such as an anorak in goretex or nylon, and long trousers) gloves, boots and a hat. A change of clothes, rucksack and water bottle, sun cream and sunglasses and personal bedding.
