Safety information

Rules for hiking in the mountains:
  • The accessibility of trails in mountain environments is closely linked to current conditions and can be affected by natural phenomena, environmental changes, and weather. For this reason, make sure to check the route and its conditions before setting off. You can do this by contacting the nearest Information Office.
  • If you plan to reach an alpine hut or refuge, make sure it is open, and if you plan to stop there for a meal or overnight stay, call in advance to make a reservation.
  • Always let someone know your route and carry your phone with you.
  • In case of emergency, call 112.
  • Never leave trash in the mountains and, if possible, avoid leaving it at huts or alpine pastures.
  • If you spot wildlife along the way, stay on the trail, don’t get too close, don’t shout, and keep your dog on a leash to prevent it from instinctively chasing and scaring the animals.

Starting point

Ossana

Directions

Near the first hairpin bend on the road from Ossana heading toward Valpiana, take the "Sentiero de la Lec" trail, which, after crossing a lush and enchanting spruce forest, will lead you to your destination in about 30 minutes. Here, you can admire the Adamello-Presanella mountain range surrounding the entire valley, offering breathtaking views worth photographing. Thanks to the Foce stream flowing alongside the valley, your four-legged friends will be happy too—what could be better than a refreshing dip in the waters of an alpine stream? For the return, you can follow the same route back or take the forest road to complete a circular loop.

Public transportation

You can reach the village of Ossana by taking the TRENTO - MALÉ train (download the outbound and return timetables here), getting off at Mezzana station. From Mezzana, take a Trentino Trasporti public bus, either the MALÈ - MEZZANA - FUCINE - VERMIGLIO - TONALE route (download the outbound and return timetables here), or the MALÈ - MEZZANA - FUCINE - COGOLO - PEIO route (download the outbound and return timetables here)—until you reach Ossana.

How to get there

Drive along the SS42 to the village of Ossana and, once you have passed the church of Santa Maria Maddalena, turn left at the junction onto the SP202. Drive for about one kilometre and park near the church, then continue on foot.

Where to park

You can park near the church of Ossana and from there take the path leading to Valpiana. Alternatively, you can reach Valpiana by car by following the signs at the junction.

For this walk, we recommend wearing hiking boots and a hat, and bringing a waterproof jacket, sunscreen, and a water bottle in your backpack.

Don’t forget your camera or phone to capture the views and landscapes you like the most. If you’d like, you can share your pictures on social media using #visitvaldisole.
