A high-altitude trekking for nature enthusiasts, offering direct knowledge of mountain and alpine wildlife and their ideal habitats.
A perfect circular trek for wildlife lovers: with good binoculars, a lot of patience and silence, you can observe deer, roe deer, and chamois in their natural habitat, as well as marmots and, with a bit of luck, spot the small snow vole, capercaillie, rock ptarmigan, and the soaring eagle. Observations are not always successful, especially if the paths are walked during the hottest central hours of the day when wildlife activity is minimal. It may therefore be useful to learn to recognize and verify their presence through identifying their tracks and signs.

Starting point

Rifugio Fontanino

Directions

The route starts from Rifugio Fontanino, a short distance from the Ramoni al Còler parking lot. The path climbs in Val Maleda, skirting the meadows and farmsteads of Còler before entering the coniferous forest. It crosses the forestry road of Val Maleda and follows it for a short stretch until the entrance of the old mule track that crosses the pasture of Malga Stablàz bassa and leads to the high mountain pasture. From here starts the contour path that cuts across the slope at the forest edge, passes the Forborìda lookout point, crosses the alpine meadow of Pravedèla, then reaches the picturesque waterfall of Rio Campisòl and the homonymous mountain hut. For the return, descend via the CAI-SAT 128 path leading to Dòs de le Crós, where it intersects path 106 that goes through Val di Saènt and leads back to the starting point.
