Suggestions

It is possible to do the Three Lakes Route, also starting from the Campo Carlo Magno cross-country ski center parking lot, following the signs for Lago delle Malghette.

Safety information

To face a mountain hike we suggest you:

  • choose a route suitable for your fitness level. If in doubt, contact the Mountain Guides or our Information Offices
  • prepare your hike: check the weather forecast, the route you will follow and the operating hours of the lifts if your itinerary includes their use. Remember that the accessibility of trails in a mountain environment is strictly linked to the current conditions and therefore depends on natural phenomena, environmental changes, and weather conditions. For this reason, get good information about the route and its conditions before setting off
  • leave information about your route, your estimated return time and bring your phone with you
  • pay attention to signs and trail markers you find on the route: Stelvio Park signs, white and red SAT signs and red and white markings on stones or trees
  • book in advance the mountain hut or refuge where you intend to stop for eating or sleeping
  • never leave waste at altitude and, if possible, avoid leaving it at refuges or mountain huts you visit
  • if you see wild animals along the route, we invite you to stay on the path you are following, do not get too close, do not shout and keep your dog on a leash to prevent it from instinctively chasing and frightening them

Starting point

Alpe Daolasa Refuge (arrival of the Daolasa Cableway - Val Mastellina)

Directions

Once you reach the Alpe Daolasa Refuge, climb along Monte Vigo until you reach the Orso Bruno Refuge. From here, go down the road westward until you take the SAT 267 trail towards Lago Alto. Then descend through dense woods until you reach the charming Lago delle Malghette. From here, follow the signs for the Shepherds' Path which leads back to the starting point.

Alternatively, from the Campo Carlo Magno cross-country ski center parking lot, take the dirt road towards Lago delle Malghette and follow it until Baita Ciocomiti - Malga Vigo. From here, take the SAT 201 trail until you reach the lake and continue along the path crossing old peat bogs, larch and stone pine woods until you reach Lago Scuro. Then follow the steep path to the first of the three lakes, then continue to the other two and close the loop returning to Lago delle Malghette and then back to the Campo Carlo Magno cross-country ski center.
