A medium-difficulty trail that will lead you from the green pastures of Valpiana to the characteristic Malga del Doss, at the foot of Mount Dosso.

A hike through the green woods surrounding the quaint village of Ossana, leading to Malga del Doss. Once you reach the mountain hut, you won't be able to resist snapping a photo of the splendid view from up there. Be enchanted by the unique view of the Val di Peio and the majesty of the Punta Taviela, Vioz, and Cevedale peaks. If you're lucky, on a particularly clear day, you'll also be able to see the "G. Larcher" refuge to the right, overlooked by the Cime Nera and Marmotta peaks and the Vedretta Alta Pass.

Safety information

To embark on a mountain hike, we recommend:
  • Choose a route suited to your level of fitness. If in doubt, contact the Alpine Guides or our Information Offices.
  • Prepare your hike: check the weather forecast, your route, and the lift schedules, if your itinerary requires them. Remember that the feasibility of mountain trails is strictly dependent on the prevailing conditions and therefore depends on natural phenomena, environmental changes, and weather conditions. Therefore, be sure to check the route and its conditions before setting out.
  • Leave information about your itinerary and approximate return time, and bring your cell phone with you.
  • Pay attention to the directions and signs along the route: Stelvio National Park signs, red and white SAT signs, and red and white brushstrokes on rocks or trees.
  • Book in advance the mountain hut or refuge where you intend to stop for food or sleep.
  • Never abandon waste at high altitudes, and if possible, avoid leaving it at the refuges or mountain huts you will visit.
  • If you spot wild animals along the route, we encourage you to stay on the trail you are walking, don't get too close, don't shout, and keep your dog on a leash to prevent it from instinctively chasing them and scaring them.

Starting point

Capitello Sant'Antonio - Valpiana

Directions

To reach the Malga del Doss, take trail no. 204 on the right, located near the shrine dedicated to Saint Anthony, and follow its hairpin bends until you reach the mountain hut. From here, you'll enjoy a spectacular view of the entire Val di Sole, but what will truly leave you speechless is the panorama of the Val di Peio and the surrounding peaks. To return, you can either retrace your steps or opt for the dirt road that you take near the mountain hut until you rejoin trail no. 204, thus returning to Valpiana.

Public transportation

You can reach the village of Ossana by taking the TRENTO–MALÉ–MARILLEVA train (download the outbound and return timetables) up to the Mezzana stop. At Mezzana, take the Trentino Trasporti line bus MALÈ – MEZZANA – FUCINE – VERMIGLIO – TONALE (download the outbound and return timetables) or the Trentino Trasporti line bus MALÈ – MEZZANA – FUCINE – COGOLO – PEIO (download the outbound and return timetables). Once you reach the village of Ossana, you can reach the starting point of the itinerary on foot in about 40 minutes.

How to get there

Follow the SS42 and at Cusiano turn left. Follow the provincial road 202 until you reach the village of Ossana. From there, follow the signs to Valpiana.

Where to park
