Safety information

For a mountain hike we suggest you:

  • choose a route suitable to your preparation, if in doubt, contact the Mountain Guides or our Information Offices
  • prepare your hike: check the weather forecast, the route you will follow and the operating times of the lifts, if your itinerary includes their use. Remember that the passability of paths in a mountain environment is strictly linked to current conditions and thus depends on natural phenomena, environmental changes and weather conditions. For this reason, inform yourself well about the route and its conditions before starting
  • leave information about your itinerary, the approximate return time and bring your mobile phone
  • pay attention to the signs and markings you find on the route: Stelvio National Park signs, white and red SAT signs and red and white brushstrokes on stones or trees
  • book in advance the malga or refuge where you intend to stop to eat or sleep
  • never abandon waste in the mountains and, if possible, avoid leaving it at the refuges or malgas you visit
  • if you spot wild animals along the path, we invite you to stay on the trail, do not approach too closely, do not shout, and keep your dog on a leash to avoid it instinctively chasing them and scaring them

Starting point

Parking above the village of Ortisè where the road is no longer paved

Directions

Starting from the parking lot above the village of Ortisè, you reach Malga Stabli and from here continue towards Malga Bronzolo without actually reaching it. 200 meters before the malga, at the hairpin turn, turn left to the Baita degli Alpini. Upon reaching this bivouac, cross the stream and follow the pleasant flat path leading to Malga Vallenaia. From Malga Vallenaia, then descend along the road that leads back to the parking lot.

Alternatively, once you reach Baita Pozze, you can continue along the SAT 152 path passing Malga Monte, which today houses the alpine epigraphy museum, and then reach the small Lago di Celentino at 2068 meters altitude. For the return, follow the outward route back to Baita Pozze and then descend along the comfortable dirt road back to Ortisé.

Public transportation

You can reach Ortisè by the Trentino Trasporti scheduled bus MALÈ - PELLIZZANO and then the Trentino Trasporti bus PELLIZZANO - MENAS (download departure and return timetables)

How to get there

Stay on SS42 and, between Mezzana and Pellizzano, take the SP 40 on the right (if coming from Malè-Dimaro-Mezzana) towards Termenago-Castello-Ortisè, continue for about 8 km, until you reach the village of Ortisè on your left.

Where to park

Parking at the church square.

For a mountain hike it is always useful to:

  • wear trekking boots suitable for uneven, irregular and wet ground, long pants, a hat and sunglasses
  • pack in your backpack a waterproof jacket, a fleece, a hat and gloves, sunscreen, minimal spare clothing
  • bring a water bottle and snacks for energy dips (dried fruit, bars or chocolate)
  • don't forget a camera or phone to capture the views and scenes you like. If you want, you can share them on social media using #valdisolevibes
