Pathways of taste | The lower Val di Sole, between history, art, and flavors
A route along the trails of the lower Val di Sole where you can stop to taste typical products of Val di Sole and visit cultural sites.
THE 10 RULES FOR HIKERS
As you can imagine, the passability of itineraries in a mountain environment is closely linked to contingent conditions and therefore depends on natural phenomena, environmental changes, and weather conditions. For this reason, the information contained in this sheet may have changed. Before leaving, check the status of the path by contacting facilities along the route or tourist offices.
Our route starts from MMape, the Honey Mill Museum, an extraordinary place where science and nature merge and give rise to new stimuli to learn about, promote, and enhance mountain beekeeping, hive products, and the complex world of bees and insects.
Crossing the Noce river, you walk towards the village of Croviana along via Molin. In the center you will find La Bottega del Pinelo, a butcher shop and store that will brighten your day with its aromas. Here you can have a packed lunch prepared to take with you for the day.
Heading along via Nazionale, continue towards Malè, which appears as almost a single inhabited center with Croviana. To get the right boost, we recommend a hearty breakfast at Caffè Pasticceria Roma, which overlooks the beautiful main square of Malè. Here the pastry chef Gianluca prepares delicious strudels and his famous apple fritters every day, as well as many other sweets to try. Not far away is the Solandra Civilization Museum, which collects testimonies and tools of the Solandra culture, traditional material from the territory, with sections dedicated to the agrosilvopastoral system, craftsmanship, and rural domestic environment. Definitely worth a visit.
Then proceed along secondary roads towards Terzolas; along the route a visit to Caseificio Cercen is a must, famous for its exquisite ricotta but also for various cheeses made from the milk of cows grazing in the Lower Val di Sole.
Leaving the village of Terzolas, following Via dei Canopi and heading east, you reach the village of Samoclevo; from here continue on a path that winds through the orchards, dominated on the left by the keep of the Samoclevo Castle. This path allows you to enjoy a wide and pleasant panorama of the Val di Sole and part of the Val di Non: behind you stand the mountains of the Presanella group, on the right the Brenta Group, and in the valley the Noce river accompanies your walk. Continuing, you can see, on the opposite bank of the river, the village of Cavizzana and further on you reach the small village of San Giacomo with its ancient homonymous little church.
In San Giacomo there is Agritur Solasna, a typical mountain farmhouse dating back to 1200, managed by the Andreis family for more than twenty years. If you love animals, simple and rural life, this is the place for you! Nicoletta will welcome you with her contagious enthusiasm, show you her educational farm, and introduce you to her donkeys. If you still have some energy, she will accompany you on a “donkey-paced” walk to discover the value of slowness together with these long-eared and furry friends. Alternatively, we recommend enjoying the relaxed and convivial atmosphere of the agritur, perhaps savoring an aperitif based on cheese, cured meats, eggs, and garden products, all strictly made in Solasna.
Between a taste and a chat, it is soon dinner time, with a menu of peasant tradition prepared with ingredients from the farm. Overnight stay at the Agritur.
