Medium difficulty route leading to one of the destinations you absolutely cannot miss in Val di Sole: Lake dei Caprioli. A small alpine lake with crystal-clear waters where you can enjoy a refreshing break on summer days.
Starting from Ossana, one of the Most Beautiful Villages in Italy where you can admire the majestic San Michele Castle, you cycle towards Valpiana to then reach the charming Lake dei Caprioli. Take a break along its banks to then get back on your saddle and reach the village of Pellizzano, a characteristic mountain village featuring a very picturesque wooden bridge. From Pellizzano, return to Ossana along the cycle-pedestrian path.
The route starts near the Municipality of Ossana, where there is a convenient car park with spaces reserved for disabled people. If you haven't already, take some time to visit the village of Ossana, named one of the Most Beautiful Villages in Italy. Don't miss the chance to visit the San Michele Castle, definitely fascinating with its impressive keep that offers a unique view over the Val di Sole. Starting from Ossana, you cycle quickly gaining altitude on a paved winding road until you reach Valpiana, where green pastures, fresh waters, and rocky cliffs will leave you breathless. The view from here stretches from Val di Bon to Monte Giner. For those wishing to take a small break, it is possible to continue on the asphalt in Valpiana until reaching the homonymous alpine hut.
From here, you ride a slightly uphill dirt track that, skirting the slopes of Monte Salvat, quickly leads to Lake dei Caprioli, a suggestive glacial lake around which you can complete an easy and panoramic loop and enjoy a lunch break with local dishes at Chalet Lake dei Caprioli, right on the lake shore.
The route, having reached its highest point here (1,311 m above sea level), continues downhill on asphalt (be careful of cars and the short unlit tunnel) to the village of Pellizzano; you return to Ossana on a cycle path.
Attention! From summer 2024 the Greenbus service is active: every Wednesday in July, from 9:30 am to 5:00 pm, there will be a shuttle service from the villages of Ossana and Pellizzano that will take you to Lake dei Caprioli and Valpiana. During the service, a one-way traffic system will be in effect from 9:15 am to 5:15 pm towards Lake dei Caprioli and from 10:00 am to 5:15 pm towards Valpiana.
You can reach the village of Ossana by the TRENTO - MALE' - MARILLEVA train (download departure and arrival timetables) and then by local bus (download departure and arrival timetables). The village of Ossana is also accessible by the convenient Smartbus service on which you can also transport your bicycle.
Follow the SS42 and once you reach Ossana, turn left and take provincial road 202 and continue until you reach the municipality.
You can leave your car in the car parks near the Municipality of Ossana, where you will find parking spaces reserved for disabled people.
Depending on your abilities and fitness level, this route is doable both on e-tandem and e-handbike.
