Moderately difficult hike that runs through the Val di Rabbi up to the Artisè mountain hut.
At the Artisè mountain hut, you’ll find cows grazing in the pastures, spending the summer months here to give their milk a more authentic and genuine flavor.

Safety information
To safely enjoy a hike in the mountains, we recommend:
preparing your hike in advance: check the weather forecast, study the route you'll take, and verify the opening hours of any lift systems, if your itinerary includes them. Keep in mind that trail conditions in the mountains depend heavily on current circumstances such as natural events, environmental changes, and weather. Always get up-to-date information before setting off
informing someone about your route and estimated return time, and taking your phone with you
paying attention to the signs and trail markers along the way: Stelvio National Park signs, SAT white and red markers, and red and white paint marks on rocks or trees
booking in advance any malga or mountain hut where you plan to eat or sleep
never leaving trash in high-altitude areas; if possible, avoid leaving it even at the huts or malghe you visit
if you spot wild animals along the trail, stay on the path, don’t get too close, avoid shouting, and keep your dog on a leash to prevent it from instinctively chasing or scaring them
Starting point
Cavallar
Directions
After leaving your car at the Cavallar parking area in the Val di Rabbi hamlet of the same name, follow SAT trail no. 130, which climbs steadily through switchbacks until you reach a larch forest. In autumn, take a moment to look up and enjoy the stunning palette of colors the larches turn. Continuing along the trail, you'll reach Malga Artisé, located at an altitude of 1,890 meters, in about an hour and a half.
Public transportation
You can reach the Cavallar parking lot by taking the MALÈ – RABBI BAGNI – SOMRABBI public bus (download the outbound and return schedule) to Piazzola. From Piazzola, you can reach the parking area on foot in about 40 minutes. During the summer months, you can take the Stelviobus Val di Rabbi to Malga Cespedè (Samocleva) and then reach Malga di Artisé on foot by following the signs.
How to get there
Drive along the SS42 until the exit for the center of the village of Terzolas. Then continue along Via Nazionale until you reach the roundabout, and take the second exit toward the Val di Rabbi. From there, follow the SP86 until you reach the junction for the village of Piazzola. Turn right here and follow the signs for the Cavallar parking lot.
Where to park
You can park your car at the Cavallar parking lot.
To safely enjoy a mountain hike, it’s always useful to:
wear hiking boots suitable for uneven, rough, or wet terrain, long pants, a hat, and sunglasses
pack in your backpack a waterproof jacket, a fleece, hat and gloves, sunscreen, and a change of clothes
bring a water bottle and snacks for energy drops (such as dried fruit, energy bars, or chocolate)
don’t forget your camera or phone to capture your favorite views and landscapes. And if you like, share them on social media using #visitvaldisole
