The route develops in the Stelvio National Park among snowy woods and meadows, up to Malga Monte Sole, a natural terrace with an incredible view of the mountains of the Val di Rabbi.

Moderately demanding snowshoeing that develops along marked trails signposted by a snowshoe sign. This itinerary in the Stelvio National Park offers pleasant views of the characteristic villages of the Val di Rabbi and the mountains that border it. For much of the route it is exposed to the sun and, although long, it runs on a road groomed by a snowcat, so it is comfortable to walk.

Suggestions

We suggest a gastronomic stop at Malga Monte Sole Alta, where you can reward yourself for the effort (and the calories burned!) with a slice of strudel or buckwheat cake and a hot drink or, even more tempting, with a typical dish of our tradition. In the latter case, we suggest booking in advance by calling (+39) 0463 636134 - cell (+39) 339 1310314.

Safety information

SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS

For snow hiking activities follow these guidelines:

  • get well informed about the route and its conditions before setting off. You can do this by contacting the nearest tourist information office;
  • the day before the hike, check the weather and the avalanche danger level;
  • if you plan to reach a malga or a refuge, make sure they are open, and if you intend to stop for eating or sleeping, call them in advance to book;
  • before leaving, if you don't feel well, postpone the outing until you feel better;
  • wear the mask even in the mountains;
  • keep a safety distance of at least 2 meters from other people;
  • avoid exchanging personal items, tools and bottles with other people;
  • bring hand sanitizer, to disinfect hands and surfaces frequently;
  • never leave waste on the mountain and, if possible, avoid leaving it at the refuges or malgas you visit.

Starting point

Rabbi Fonti

Directions

Rabbi Fonti (1,260 m) - Malga Monte Sole Bassa (1,759 m) - Malga Monte Sole Alta (2,053 m)

From the parking lot in the area of Rabbi Fonti, near the Terme di Rabbi (closed in winter), follow the obvious forest road that climbs on the left side of the main road, up to the area of Fontanon, near Malga Stableti. Leave the malga on the left and continue to the right making the hairpin turn, then after another hairpin turn, reach Malga Monte Sole Bassa. From here, still on a road groomed by a snowcat, you will arrive at Malga Monte Sole Alta. If you plan to stop to enjoy the typical dishes of the malga, we recommend that before setting off on the hike, you find out about the opening hours and, if possible, book in advance at numbers (+39) 0463 636134 or (+39) 339 1310314. The return is along the same route. The itinerary is constantly groomed by snow grooming machines, so it is also suitable for ski mountaineers who are not particularly experienced and for hikers on foot without snowshoes (it is better to always have crampons with you!).

Public transportation

You can reach the area Rabbi Terme (Rabbi Baths) by Trentino Trasporti line bus MALÈ - RABBI BAGNI - SOMRABBI (download departure and return schedules).

How to get there

Follow the SP86 of Val di Rabbi until Rabbi Bagni and park near the Terme di Rabbi.

Where to park

You can park in the parking lots of the Terme di Rabbi. The parking lots are reserved for spa customers but in the winter period, when the spa is closed, they are free.
