Ascent through the evocative woods of Val Meledrio, along the Via dell’Imperatore, the ancient road that connected Val di Sole to Madonna di Campiglio.
You ascend along the forest road of Val Meledrio to reach Passo Campo Carlo Magno. The valley you cross is truly unique in its biodiversity and variety of landscapes: you move from the valley floor at 760 m above sea level up to the alpine pastures located at 1800 m above sea level.
The itinerary is very pleasant, and there are countless opportunities to appreciate the natural beauty of the Adamello Brenta Nature Park. The most evocative section of the entire route will be discovered after passing a small rock tunnel: you will reach Pont del Pison and under your feet the Meledrio stream forms the Pison waterfall, which definitely deserves a visit (by walking down a small path on the right, passing over the wooden bridge).
Once you reach Malga Vigo Baita Ciocomiti, you can enjoy a meal or an aperitif, relaxing well deserved.
The descent back takes place along the same route.
Pay attention when crossing the SS239 at Campiglio in the Campo Carlo Magno area. Moderate your speed downhill especially before curves and use the brakes correctly, always keeping to the right.
Other advice:
- Plan the route according to your abilities and weather forecast;
- Go slow, be cautious, enjoy the scenery and silence;
- Adapt your riding style to the characteristics and state of the terrain;
- Rely on bike guides;
- Wear appropriate clothing and equipment;
- Respect the environment and those who live there by carrying out your trash;
- Respect the trail and do not use those forbidden to bikes. Stop if someone needs help;
- Be cautious along the cycling and hiking paths and mixed-use trails, also frequented by hikers;
- If you meet pedestrians, warn them of your arrival and reduce your speed.
From the large parking lot in Daolasa, at the start of the Daolasa – Val Mastellina lift system, take Via della Fantòma going uphill towards Almazzago. At the fork towards Costa Rotian, take Via del Pra del Pan and continue towards Costa Rotian along Strada di Volta Bela. Just after the uphill section, take a natural path on the right that leads directly to the locality of Costa Rotian. From Costa Rotian continue to the intersection with State Road 239 that leads to Madonna di Campiglio: cross the state road and go down about twenty meters to enter the Sentiero de la Lec. Follow the path to its end, near the Hydroelectric Plant in Val Meledrio. From here, continue uphill along the forest road of Val Meledrio until you reach Malfa Mondifrà and then Campo Carlo Magno in the Madonna di Campiglio area. At Campo Carlo Magno, near the Rio Falzè condominium, follow signs to Malga Vigo – Baita Ciocomiti, traveling approximately 3 km along the forest road.
Return to the valley is planned by following the outward route.
