Safety information

For a mountain hike we suggest you:

  • choose a route suitable for your preparation. In case of doubt, contact the Alpine Guides or our Information Offices
  • prepare your hike: check the weather forecast, the route you will follow and the operating hours of lifts, if your itinerary includes their use. Remember that the passability of routes in a mountain environment is strictly linked to current conditions and therefore depends on natural phenomena, environmental changes and weather conditions. For this reason, get good information about the route and its conditions before setting out
  • leave information about your route, your approximate return time and bring your mobile phone
  • pay attention to the signs and signaling along the route: Stelvio Park signs, white and red SAT signs and red and white brushstrokes on stones or trees
  • book in advance the hut or refuge where you intend to stop to eat or sleep
  • never abandon waste at altitude and, if possible, avoid leaving it at the refuges or huts you visit
  • if you spot wild animals along the route, we invite you to stay on the path you are walking, do not approach too closely, do not shout and keep your dog on a leash to prevent it from instinctively chasing and frightening them

Starting point

Rabbi Fonti

Directions

Starting from Rabbi Fonti, you take the SAT 109 path, along the dirt road immersed in the forest that climbs with a steady gradient, reaching Malga Monte Sole in about 9 kilometers. Here we recommend you take a break to admire the Val di Rabbi and the surrounding peaks while enjoying excellent traditional Solandra dishes. Once past the hut, follow the signs to Malga Villar Alta, which is reached after about another 2.5 kilometers, surrounded by its green pastures.

ALTERNATIVE ROUTE:

It is also possible to reach Malga Villar Alta starting from the Fontanon parking lot by following the signs to Malga Cercen Bassa and then continuing until reaching Malga Villar.

Public transportation

You can reach Rabbi Fonti by the MALÈ - RABBI BAGNI - SOMRABBI line bus (download the outbound and return timetables) up to the Rabbi Bagni stop.

How to get there

Follow the SS42 and at the junction for Terzolas center, exit right and take Via Nazionale. At the roundabout, take the second exit towards Val di Rabbi and follow the SP86 until you reach Rabbi Bagni.

Where to park

You can leave your car in the parking lots you will find at Rabbi Bagni near the starting point of the hike.

For a mountain hike, it is always useful to:

  • wear trekking boots suitable for uneven, irregular and wet ground, long pants, a hat and sunglasses
  • put a waterproof jacket, fleece sweater, hat and gloves, sunscreen, and minimal spare clothing in your backpack
  • bring a water bottle and snacks for energy dips (dried fruit, bars, or chocolate)
  • do not forget a camera or phone to capture the panoramas and views you like most. If you want, you can share them on social media using #visitvaldisole
