Pleasant hike in the majestic landscape of the Ortles-Cevedale group, in the Stelvio National Park.

The Larcher Refuge at Cevedale, in the Stelvio National Park, is the ideal base for the approach to splendid peaks: Cevedale, Zuffal, Rosole, Palon de la Mare and Vioz.
Also very scenic is the Cevedale Lakes circuit, a classic of this area: follow the SAT path 123 in the basins above the refuge and you will encounter, in succession, Marmot Lake, Long Lake, Black Lake, Careser Lake (hydroelectric basin), and with a small detour, Lame Lake.

Safety information

To face a mountain hike we suggest you:

  • choose a route suitable for your preparation. If in doubt, contact the Mountain Guides or our Information Offices;
  • prepare your hike: check the weather forecast, the route you will follow and the times of the lifts, if your itinerary foresees their use. Remember that the passability of routes in a mountain environment is strictly linked to contingent conditions and therefore depends on natural phenomena, environmental changes and weather conditions. For this reason, get good information on the route and its conditions before leaving;
  • leave information about your itinerary, approximate return time and carry your phone;
  • pay attention to the signs and markings you find on the path: Stelvio Park signs, white and red SAT signs and red and white brushstrokes on stones or trees;
  • alert by calling 112, in case of an accident;
  • book in advance the malga or refuge where you intend to stop to eat or sleep;
  • never leave waste at altitude and, if possible, avoid leaving it near the shelters or malgas you will visit;
  • if you spot wild animals along the route, please stay on the trail, do not get too close, do not shout and keep your dog on a leash to avoid it instinctively chasing and frightening them.

Starting point

Prà Bòn parking lot

Directions

Reach by car the Prà Bòn parking lot from Cogolo di Peio on an asphalt road. From here take the path on the left of the parking lot that will lead you to Malga Mare 2,301 m (closed for summer 2023) and from there take the SAT path 102, which runs alongside the malga and then climbs through a larch pine forest up to Pian Venezia, a panoramic plateau. From here the refuge is already visible and its view will accompany you for the rest of the route, which continues along the slope on the right side of the valley until the Cevedale Refuge «G. Larcher» (2,608 m a.s.l.).
From here the view spans from the Cevedale summit (3,769 m) to the La Mare glacier, to the ancient moraines and smoothed rocks that recall the sculpting work done by the glaciers. The landscape, characterized by imposing snowy peaks and the water mirrors of the lakes, is all to be contemplated to recharge your well-being.

You can return the same way or do the Cevedale lakes circuit
