Pleasant hike in upper Val Saènt, one of the most unspoiled valleys of Stelvio National Park and the entire Ortles-Cevedale group.

Rifugio Dorigoni is located in a valley rich in water, waterfalls, lakes, alpine meadows and century-old larches. It is placed at the natural junction of four valleys: Val di Rabbi, Val di Peio, Val Martello and Val d'Ultimo and serves as a base for the respective crossings and for climbing the surrounding peaks.
The professionalism and courtesy of the Iachelini family, combined with the excellent cuisine you can find here, will make you fall in love with this hut.

Suggestions

From Rifugio Dorigoni you can do the Sternai Lakes circuit, a route of about two hours marked with stone cairns, among the intensely coloured glacial lakes where the Rabbies stream originates. On the way back, it is recommended to descend along the path of the Saènt Waterfalls, which are a true wonder of nature.

Near the hut there is a magnificent sporting climbing crag and other routes and preparatory climbing activities are available.

Safety information

To face a mountain hike we suggest you:

  • choose a route suitable for your preparation. If in doubt, contact the Alpine Guides or our Information Offices;
  • prepare your hike: check the weather forecast, the route you will take and the times of lifts, if your itinerary involves their use. Remember that the passability of routes in a mountain environment is strictly linked to contingent conditions and therefore depends on natural phenomena, environmental changes and weather conditions. For this, get well informed about the route and its conditions before setting off;
  • leave information about your itinerary, the approximate return time and carry your mobile phone;
  • pay attention to the signs and signposting you find on the route: Stelvio National Park signs, white and red SAT signs and red and white brushstrokes on stones or trees;
  • raise the alarm by calling 112 in case of accident;
  • book in advance the dairy or hut where you intend to stop to eat or sleep;
  • never abandon waste at altitude and, if possible, avoid leaving it near the huts or dairies you visit;
  • if you spot wild animals along the route, we invite you to stay on the path you are following, don't get too close, don't shout and keep your dog on a leash to prevent it from chasing and frightening them instinctively.

ANTI COVID-19 RULES:

  • the use of the mask must also be respected in the mountains;
  • keep a safety distance of at least 2 meters from people;
  • avoid exchanging personal effects, tools and water bottles or flasks with other people;
  • carry hand sanitizer to disinfect hands and surfaces frequently;

Starting point

Coler car park - Malga Stablasolo

Directions

The starting point of the route is the Coler car park (1,386 m), reachable by car from Piazzola di Rabbi. In summer Val di Rabbi is closed at certain times and you can reach Colér by the shuttle bus service Stelviobus Rabbi.  From the car park you will reach in about half an hour Malga Stablasolo (1,529 m)
200 m from the dairy a junction on the right offers the possibility to take the path to the Saènt Waterfalls. The route is extended by about 10 minutes, but it is worth it: you will enjoy all the spectacular and disruptive energy of the water.
If you are not interested, you can continue on the left to Malga Stablèt, visitor centre of Stelvio National Park dedicated to the world of the marmot. From here you will walk along a well-marked and signposted route for about 5 kilometres with SAT path 106 to Dosso della Croce (1,796 m), then to Prà di Saènt with its characteristic dairy. Continue, among the whistles of marmots, to Malga Vecla, where the "Alpinists' Path" leads to Palina (2,100 m). Skirting the left side of the Rabbies stream, through a landscape rich in rhododendrons, marmots and water, you will arrive at Rifugio Saent "S. Dorigoni" (2,437 m), where you will be welcomed by the warmth, professionalism, smiles and excellent cuisine of the Iachelini family.

You can return following the same route or you can choose a beautiful circular route.
Crossing the meadow below Rifugio Dorigoni, at the junction between the 106 and 128 signs, take the SAT path 128 to reach Baito della Valletta. At this point, keeping right, be careful and follow the path marked by stone cairns which leads to Baito Campisol Alto (2,432 m). The path, although not technically difficult, requires good eyesight to spot the cairns. From Baito Campisol Alto you descend to Malga Stablasolo (1,529 m), from where with SAT path 106 you reach the Coler car park (1,380 m).
