Fascinating itinerary in the heart of Val di Rabbi passing through alpine huts and the habitats of the deer in Stelvio National Park. The route unfolds almost entirely in the forest between areas of great faunistic-environmental interest and wide meadows from which you can enjoy breathtaking views. The ascent is on a compact dirt road while the descent has some technical single track sections in the forest.
The route starts from Locality Fonti di Rabbi at the small church. From here, follow the dirt road that runs alongside the Rabbies stream, passing next to the restored ancient Venetian sawmill. After about 500 meters, take the forest road uphill to Malga Polinar. The road climbs for 4 kilometers entirely through the forest until a junction with another forest road that goes downhill to Malga Stableti. Just below the hut, you cross the Fontanon area (picnic area), and from here take the forest road to Malga Cercen. The route is undulating and occasionally steep with long steep stretches until reaching Malga Cercen Bassa. From here, to the right, the road flattens out until reaching Malga Vilar (2,020 m) located on the slope just beyond the forest vegetation. Continue towards Malga Fassa (2,057 m) across wide pastures and a steep gully along an easy path where it is necessary to push the MTB for about 20 minutes. A little further than the hut, which also has a road from the valley bottom, move at the same altitude to Malga Monte Sole Alta (2,048 m), renowned for milk processing and production of typical high mountain cheese. Following the road descending to the valley floor, after two hairpin bends, signs on the left for Malga Fratte Alta lead to a path that gently descends through a beautiful fir and larch forest. The hut (1,857 m), long abandoned, is situated in an exceptionally panoramic position overlooking Val di Rabbi and features construction peculiarities typical of times past. The path quickly zigzags down through pastures and enters the forest, with quite a steep slope (some technical sections), leading shortly to Malga Fratte Bassa (1,482 m) which, located on a dominant plateau, offers a great chance to admire the valley, waterfalls, high pastures, and often snow-covered peaks. Continue descending to the valley floor where another forest road passes the very characteristic Venetian sawmill and climbs, with the Rabbies stream to the left, until reaching the asphalt road leading to Fontanino, Malga Stablasolo, and the Saent waterfalls. Take it to the right and after a kilometer, turn left onto a forest trail with some steep ups and downs that climbs alongside the high meadows of the valley (beautiful views of Val di Rabbi), then quickly, passing through ancient settlements, you arrive at Fonti di Rabbi.
