The route offers incredible views of some of the most iconic mountains in Val di Sole.
A fairly easy snowshoe hike that follows marked trails with appropriate snowshoe signage. The route is mostly sunny and will leave you in awe of the beautiful views of the peaks of the Ortles-Cevedale Group and Presanella.
For snow hiking activities follow these guidelines:
In the village of Ossana, now famous at Christmas time for its 1,000 Nativity Scenes, reach the Church of San Vigilio, an ancient medieval parish church. We suggest, before leaving, a visit to the interior of the church, perhaps the oldest in the valley, dedicated to San Vigilio, the first bishop of Trento. From the parking lot of the church follow an obvious road that climbs steeply, at least until the first hairpin bend, after which the slope decreases and after a couple of kilometers you will arrive at Valpiana, a flat basin, furrowed by the Foce stream. The view from here is really impressive: behind you the peaks of the Ortles-Cevedale group, first and foremost that of the Vioz (3,645 m), stand out, while in front of you the scenery of Corno di Valpiana, Cima di Bon and Monte Gìner (2,955 m), which continues the Presanella group.
You can return to Ossana, retracing the same route back.
Alternatively, you can continue for a flat stretch, turn left and reach on a forest road in about 3 kilometers the parking lot at Malga Bassa di Fazzon and from there arrive at the fascinating Lago dei Caprioli. From here you can return back or take the Gnome Trail, which takes you to Pellizzano.
You can reach Ossana by the Trentino Trasporti bus line MALÈ - MEZZANA - FUCINE - COGOLO-PEIO (download the round-trip schedule).
Take the SS42 to Cusiano di Ossana, after which follow the signs for Ossana, turning left onto SP202. Continue for about a kilometer, then turn left onto Via Giovanni Prati and then right to Piazza San Vigilio, from where you will see the Church of San Vigilio, the start of the route.
Parking in the square of St. Vigilius Church.
