Val Pudria and Val Comiciolo

Safety information

To face a mountain hike we suggest you:

• choose a route suitable for your preparation. If in doubt, contact the Alpine Guides or our Information Offices 
• prepare your hike: check the weather forecast, the route you will follow and the schedules of the lifts if your itinerary includes their use. Remember that the passability of trails in a mountain environment is closely linked to the current conditions and therefore depends on natural phenomena, environmental changes, and weather conditions. For this reason, get good information about the route and its conditions before leaving
• leave information about your itinerary, the approximate return time and carry your cellphone with you
• pay attention to the signs and markings you find on the route: Stelvio Park signs, white and red SAT signs, and red and white marks on stones or trees
• book in advance the malga or refuge where you intend to stop to eat or sleep
• never leave waste in high mountain areas and, if possible, avoid leaving it near the refuges or malgas you visit
• if you spot wild animals along the route, stay on the path you are following, don’t get too close, don’t shout and keep your dog on a leash to prevent it from instinctively chasing and scaring them

Starting point

Directions

Starting from the locality of Fontanino, in half an hour you reach the emerald Lake Pian Palù and once you reach Malga di Celentino, you take the SAT 144 path, first very winding and narrow and then wider until you reach the charming Val Pudria, where it will be possible to meet some friendly cows grazing. From the Baito Val Pudria at 2,147 meters, continue towards Valle Alta, upon reaching which you take the SAT 144A path until you reach a splendid panoramic terrace overlooking Val del Monte and Lake Pian Palù. Then, crossing the steep grassy slope on the side of Val Comiciolo, passing through scree, you reach the Baito di Val Comiciolo. For the return, descend along the winding trail until you intersect path 137 which leads to Malga Celentino and then back to Fontanino.

Public transportation

You can reach the town of Mezzana by train TRENTO - MALE' - MEZZANA (download the outbound and return timetables). Then reach Peio Fonti by public transport with the Trentino Trasporti bus MALE' - MEZZANA - FUCINE - COGOLO - PEIO (download the outbound and return timetables). 

How to get there

Follow the SS42 road and at the town of Ossana, turn right onto SP87 until you reach Peio Fonti. From here, it is possible to reach the locality of Fontanino in 10 minutes by car.

Where to park

To face a mountain hike, it is always useful to:

• wear trekking boots suitable for uneven, irregular and wet ground, long pants, a hat and sunglasses
• put a waterproof jacket, a fleece sweater, hat and gloves, sunscreen, and minimal change of clothing in your backpack
• bring a water bottle and snacks for energy drops (dried fruit, bars or chocolate)
