Starting point

Folgarida - Belvedere (1344m)

Directions

Descend along the dirt road towards the Ronzola locality (1299m) and pass it.

Beyond the above-mentioned locality, there is a fork on the left that goes down towards the valley floor. Turn left and descend until you reach the dirt road below.

Once at the road, continue uphill to the right until you reach a large square with an information board.

Turn left and cross the bridge over the Meledrio stream (Pont del Pastrin – 1214m).

Beyond the bridge, take the road on the right which immediately climbs along the mountainside, making a left hairpin bend and then a long traverse through the forest.

Upon reaching the rock climbing gym sign, the road descends and shortly after you find the steep path (sign) going up to the right (trail 329 b).

With a steep path, you connect with trail 329 which comes up from the left and continue to the right heading south, also passing the junction with trail 365b leading to the Carciato alpine pasture.

Still in the woods, the trail ascends, now with a gentler slope, above some rock bands and after a last flat stretch, reaches the meadow of Malga Scale (1564m).

The trail, after Malga Scale, stays on the left side of the valley and allows overcoming some rock bands that block the passage. Above the rock bands, trail 329 enters the narrow Vento valley with steeper gradients than those faced so far. During the passage between the rock bands, you pass near the spring called: Tartari water.

A short section in a small gully with steel cable is compulsory and, once the steep section is overcome, where the valley bends more sharply to the right, the trail leaves the valley floor and climbs the limestone slabs on the left towards the Sasso Rosso.

You reach the junction for the Costanzi bivouac (sign) now visible on the left towards north, northwest.

Continue climbing to the right and surpass the last meters of elevation, on a gentler slope until arriving at the obvious Prà Castron pass located between the peak of Sasso Rosso, which overlooks the trail, and the Benon peak.

Once you reach the Prà Castron pass, the ascent continues to the right heading south.

The trail ascends the increasingly scree-covered slope leading towards the rocky spur overlooking the pass.

The trail passes to the right of this spur and with an easy path gains altitude passing on the west side of the slopes between Benon summit and elevation 2653m (the rocky spur).

When, with the trail, you reach the gentler slopes leading to the summit, you leave the Costanzi trail and by grassy and scree terrain gain the peak, staying just to the right of the ridge running north to south towards the summit. Spectacular view from the summit.

The return is along the ascent route.

How to get there

Arrive at Folgarida in Val di Sole and park, on the left going up, downstream of the Belvedere (large parking lot with hotel along the last stretch leaving the town). Park at the entrance of the dirt road that goes down into the Meledrio valley passing through the Ronzola area (Sat signs).
