Plan your hike in advance: check the weather forecast, the trail you'll follow, and the opening hours of any lift facilities if included in your route. Remember that trail conditions in the mountains depend on natural events, environmental changes, and weather conditions. Always get up-to-date information about the route before setting out
Leave details of your itinerary and estimated return time with someone, and carry your mobile phone with you
Follow signs and markers along the route: Stelvio National Park signs, red and white SAT signs, and red and white trail markings on rocks or trees
Book your meal or overnight stay in huts or mountain dairies (malghe) in advance
Never leave waste at high altitude and, if possible, avoid leaving it even at huts or dairies you visit
If you spot wildlife along the way, stay on the trail, don’t get too close, avoid shouting, and keep your dog on a leash to prevent it from chasing and scaring the animals
Starting point
Cogolo (Cercen road)
Directions
Starting from Cogolo in Via Cercen, you begin a fairly steep path that alternates between stretches immersed in dense forests and sections that open onto wide, green pastures along the SAT trail 109B, until you reach the malga situated at 1,808 meters above sea level. Once you arrive at the malga, we suggest taking a break and relaxing on a blanket spread out on the pastures, listening to the cowbells ringing in the distance and the water of the nearby streams flowing around you. If you still have energy, you can continue along the same trail and follow the signs to reach Malga Levi at 2,015 meters above sea level.
ALTERNATIVE ROUTE
You can also reach Malga Borche starting from Celledizzo. Just behind the church, reach the road above the adjacent barn by crossing the uphill meadow next to the cemetery, then take the forest road (SAT trail 109) which climbs for about 7 kilometers with a significant incline until you reach the malga.
Public transportation
You can reach Cogolo by the bus line MALÈ - MEZZANA - FUCINE - COGOLO - PEIO (download the outbound and return timetables).
How to get there
Drive along the SS42 and, at the junction for the Val di Peio, take the exit on the right and follow the SP87 until you reach the village of Cogolo.
Where to park
You can leave your car in Cogolo in the large parking lot along the road, then you can reach the starting point of the itinerary in Via Cercen on foot in about 10 minutes.
