Suggestions

Along the route we suggest a stop at Baita Ciocomiti - Malga Vigo, to savour high-quality typical products.

Safety information

For a mountain hike we suggest you:

  • choose a route suitable for your fitness. If in doubt, contact our Information Offices;
  • prepare your excursion: check the weather forecast, the route you will follow and the cable car times if your route involves them. Remember that the passability of routes in a mountain environment is strictly linked to contingent conditions and therefore depends on natural phenomena, environmental changes, and weather conditions. For this reason, inform yourself well about the route and its conditions before setting off;
  • leave information about your itinerary, the approximate return time, and bring your phone with you;
  • pay attention to signs and markings on the route: Stelvio Park signs, white and red SAT signs, and red and white marks on stones or trees;
  • sound the alarm by calling 112 in case of an accident;
  • book in advance the hut or refuge where you intend to rest for food or sleep;
  • never leave waste in the mountains and, if possible, avoid leaving it at refuges or huts you will visit;
  • if you encounter wild animals along the way, stay on the path, do not approach too closely, do not shout, and keep your dog leashed to prevent it from instinctively chasing and frightening them.

Starting point

Malga di Dimaro

Directions

The route starts from the Dimaro mountain hut, accessible by car without a permit. Before setting off, you deserve a taste of the Dolomites, as the hut offers a splendid view of Sasso Rosso and the Dolomiti di Brenta. Enjoy the view and know that this is nothing yet: the spectacle will be even more exciting once you reach the shores of the lake.
Next to the hut starts the SAT path no. 265. Follow it and enjoy a walk in the woods for about an hour, until you reach the Lago delle Malghette and the homonymous refuge. A foot bath in the lake or in the stream flowing from the lake back down is a must. To appreciate every nuance, we recommend dedicating about an hour to walk around the lake, before returning to the hut always via path 265, but on the opposite shore of the lake compared to the one you arrived from. On the way back, we suggest a stop at the hut to buy the cheese produced here, where Stefano and his family will be able to advise you on the most suitable for your taste. An alternative way to reach the hut: reach Malghet Aut by cable car and follow the forest road downhill for about 50 minutes.

Public transportation

You can reach the Belvedere area of Folgarida by line bus MALÉ - FOLGARIDA - MADONNA DI CAMPIGLIO (download the outbound timetable and return timetable). To reach the junction for the Malga di Dimaro you will have to walk along SS 239, where we invite you to pay particular attention to cars, which sometimes reach high speeds in this stretch. The distance from the start of the route is 3 km if you get off at Folgarida Belvedere stop and about 2 km if you get off at Campo Carlo Magno, Genziana stop.

How to get there

From Val di Sole, follow the SS42 to Dimaro and at the roundabout, take the SS 239 towards Folgarida - Madonna di Campiglio.
In Folgarida stay on the main road, and after about 3 km past the Belvedere di Folgarida area, you will find on your right the forest road leading to Malga di Dimaro.

Where to park

Parking at the hut.
