Easy snowshoeing developed along paths marked with specific signage showing a snowshoe.
This itinerary starts from the Stelvio National Park and takes place in an area of particular environmental and historical value. The snowshoeing will be a dive into the traditional mountain village environment and will give you, if you know how to appreciate it, an incredible sense of serenity.
For snow hiking activities, follow these guidelines:
Cogolo (1,150 m) - Comasine - S. Lucia (1,278 m)
Start from the Le Plaze di Cogolo area and, on the right bank of the Noce river, follow a country road through the meadows at the edge of the forest.
When you see the Church of S. Lucia, located a little higher up, continue along the road, paying close attention to the signs along the path, that is, wooden signs with a blue snowshoe painted on them and/or the red and white SAT signs, until you reach it.
It is said that the Church of Santa Lucia, isolated in the middle of the forest, was built at the behest of miners who worked for several decades in the Comasine mines, engaged in extracting magnetite for iron production.
To return to Cogolo, follow the track you took on the way out for about 800 meters, then descend on a path that runs alongside the cycle path near the Noce river (which is actually a stream, but everyone in the valley calls it a 'river'). Stay on the path for about 1 kilometer until you reach again the 'Le Plaze' area of Cogolo.
You can reach Cogolo di Peio by Trentino Trasporti bus line MALÉ - MEZZANA - FUCINE - COGOLO - PEIO (download departure times here and return times here).
Park in the square on the right side of the road, about 50 meters after the sign for the Stelvio National Park headquarters.
On foot, go back a few meters and, more or less at the level of Hotel Stella Alpina, you'll find the road that goes down on your right towards the Le Plaze area (towards the cycle path).
