Nature itinerary facing the lakes and large glaciers of Cevedale within the Stelvio National Park.

Ring trek in the heart of the Cevedale Group. The itinerary passes through the Larcher Refuge at Cevedale and the suggestive glacial lakes of the Marmots, the Long Lake and the Black Lake. After crossing the artificial basin of the Càreser it is possible to reach the small but enchanting Lame Lake. The landscape is made particularly scenic by the imposing peaks of Cevedale, Palon de la Mare, Rosole and Vioz, reflected in the lake waters.

This itinerary is part of the One In A Million project. Here you can participate in an experience of art, connection and participation that will guide you along the water routes of Val di Sole and will make you discover how the valley community has creatively imagined its vision for the protection of the environment and future generations. Safety information

To undertake a mountain hike we suggest:

  • choose a route suitable for your fitness level. If in doubt, contact the Mountain Guides or our Information Offices;
  • prepare your hike: check the weather forecast, the route you will follow and the operating hours of the ski lifts, if your itinerary involves them. Remember that the passability of mountain routes is strictly related to current conditions and thus depends on natural phenomena, environmental changes and weather. For this reason, get good information about the route and its conditions before leaving;
  • leave information on your route, approximate return time and carry your phone;
  • pay attention to signs and markings along the route: signs of the Stelvio Park, white and red SAT signs and red and white strokes on stones or trees;
  • call 112 in case of accident;
  • book in advance the hut or the alpine pasture where you intend to stop to eat or sleep;
  • never abandon waste at altitude and, if possible, avoid leaving it near huts or alpine pastures you visit;
  • if you spot wild animals along the route, please stay on the path you are following, do not approach too closely, do not shout and keep your dog on a leash, to avoid it instinctively chasing and scaring them.

Starting point

Prà Bòn Parking

Directions

Reach by car the Prà Bòn parking lot from Cogolo di Peio on an asphalt road. From here take the path on the left of the parking lot that in about 45 minutes will take you to Malga Mare 2,301 m and from here take the SAT 102 path, which runs alongside the hut and then climbs in a larch pine forest up to Pian Venezia, a panoramic plateau. From here the refuge is already visible and its view will accompany you for the rest of the route, which continues along the flank on the right side of the valley up to the Cevedale Refuge "G. Larcher" (2,608 m above sea level). From the refuge, which is in an ideal position to observe the wide and characteristic glacial environment, you can follow the SAT 104 path to a small pass (2,751 m), then descend to a large plateau where there are many glacial ponds. From here you will arrive at the enchanting Marmot Lake (2,705 m), which is the highest point of the hike. Leaving the lake, following the SAT 123 path, you walk a comfortable flat route that passes near Long Lake and reaches the shores of the small Black Lake, shortly before the artificial basin of Càreser (2,603 m). Cross the lake following the dam wall up to the supervisors' buildings. From here the SAT 123 path descends through debris with many switchbacks. Continuing zigzag, you will descend into a beautiful forest of characteristic larch pines. A short detour allows you to reach the tiny Lame Lake (2,275 m). Returning to the path, descend to the Malga Mare parking lot.
