ADMINISTRATIVE AND ECONOMIC CENTRE

The village

Malé is the administrative and economic seat of Val di Sole. It lies at the centre of the valley, at an elevation of about forty metres above the valley line of the Noce River. The town is modern in appearance, due to the devastating fire of 1892. It is characterised by numerous squares that attest to its centuries-old commercial and administrative function. Malé is a favourite destination for overnight visitors and its most important economic activities are related to the artisan sector and commerce, in addition to agriculture and animal husbandry. In fact, the famous San Matteo autumn show is held here. Malé is also the site of many sport clubs, cultural associations (such as the Centro Studi per la Val di Sole), civil defence associations (such as the Voluntary Fire Brigade), and the Acquacenter Val di Sole, a public swimming pool complex which houses three indoor swimming pools. Malé enjoys a sunny position on a plateau at the confluence of the Noce and Rabbies streams and is the perfect location for your summer and winter sport activities.

SPORTS AND RECREATIONAL ACTIVITIES

Active vacations

On the sport side, there is plenty to choose from: in the summer you can try rafting on the Noce River or visit the Flying Park adventure park and the Acquacenter Val di Sole public swimming pool complex; or you can go hiking or on a mountain bike excursion. During the winter, skiing, snowboarding and snowshoeing top the list.

HISTORY, ART AND TRADITION

Places to see

Right at the heart of Malé you will find the Deanery Church of Santa Maria Assunta dating back to 1500, and the Museo etnografico della Civiltà Solandra, an ethnographic museum located inside the Palazzo Pretorile conserving and displaying traditional items and tools of the people of Val di Sole, including handicrafts (wood, iron, pottery) and items used in agriculture, cheese-making and forestry activities.
We also recommend a visit to the Segheria Veneziana, a sawmill dating back to 1770 used for small lumber work and educational activities, and to the Fucina Marinelli del Pondasio, a rare example of a functioning water-powered forge that is still intact in the Alps.
