Water is Val di Sole’s distinguishing natural element, around which are based many of the options the valley offers its guests.

Water is a fundamental element in Val di Sole and its importance is also reflected in the origins of the valley’s place name sol. According to several sources, Sol in fact comes from Sulis, the Celtic goddess of water, the life-giving mother goddess.

River Noce

They call it a river, but it is actually a stream and it has shaped Val di Sole, flowing down from the Ortles Cevedale mountains, where it rises, to where it feeds into Lake Santa Giustina, in Val di Non. Considered one of the best in the world for river sports, it plays an undisputed major role in the valley’s tourism options.
