Safety information

To face a mountain hike we suggest you:

• choose a route suitable for your level of preparation. In case of doubt, contact the Alpine Guides or our Information Offices;
• prepare your hike: check the weather forecast, the route you will follow and the operating times of ski lifts, if your itinerary involves their use. Remember that the feasibility of routes in a mountain environment is strictly linked to current conditions and therefore depends on natural phenomena, environmental changes, and weather conditions. For this reason, get adequately informed about the route and its conditions before leaving;
• leave information about your itinerary, approximate return time and carry your mobile phone;
• pay attention to signs and markings along the way: Stelvio Park signs, SAT white and red signs, and red and white marks on stones or trees;
• raise the alarm by calling 112 in case of accident;
• book in advance the mountain hut or refuge where you intend to stop for food or overnight stay;
• never abandon waste in the mountains and, if possible, avoid leaving it near the refuges or mountain huts you visit;
• if you encounter wild animals along the route, please stay on the path you are following, do not get too close, do not shout and keep your dog on a leash to prevent it from instinctively chasing and scaring them.

Starting point

Directions

Starting from the valley floor, a comfortable path will take you through green meadows and typical mountain huts, witnesses to the farming past of Val di Rabbi.
After leaving the car, you will soon enter the silence and shade of the woods and follow the Ragaiolo stream, until shortly after, looking up, you will begin to see the famous suspension bridge, which from below shows all its spectacularity: 60 meters high and about 100 meters long.
Do not be discouraged by the steep staircase you must climb to reach it: it takes just a few minutes and, as soon as you arrive at its entrance, you will be rewarded with a truly thrilling view, with the Ragaiolo Waterfall offering its fresh sprays, the roar of the rushing water flowing downstream, and your heart beating as you look down.
As soon as you cross the bridge, be careful not to slip because the first stretch of the path towards the mountain hut is always quite damp. Continue along the trail until you reach Malga Fratte, where a stop to taste typical products is a must, many of which come from processing the milk of the cows grazing these pastures. On the way back, follow the dirt road that leads you back to the car. Before reaching the parking lot, we recommend a visit to the Venetian sawmill, where once the water current from the stream powered the machinery that cut logs into boards and beams.

Public transportation

You can reach Rabbi Terme (Rabbi Bagni) by the MALÈ - RABBI BAGNI - SOMRABBI public bus line (download schedules for outbound and return) and from there reach the Al Plan parking lot in about 20 minutes on foot.

How to get there

Follow the SP86 of Val di Rabbi up to Al Plan locality, beyond the Rabbi thermal baths.

From late June to early September Val di Rabbi is closed to traffic. Leave your car in the large parking lot at Plazze dei Forni and continue on foot, following the Rabbies stream, or take the Stelviobus Rabbi - Line 1 and get off at the Plan stop.

Where to park

To face a mountain hike it is always useful to:

• wear trekking boots suitable for uneven, irregular, and wet terrain, long pants, a hat and sunglasses;
• put a waterproof jacket, a fleece sweater, hat and gloves, sunscreen, and a minimum change of clothes into your backpack;
• bring a water bottle and snacks for energy drops (dried fruit, bars, or chocolate);
