Of all river sports, kayaking was the first to develop on the River Noce and it is the most “technical”, calling for the most effort, constancy and time. Naturally, the effort it takes to learn how to paddle and manoeuvre the kayak is repaid by the adrenaline rush that comes as you ride down the rapids on the river, deciding your route, movements and reaction times to the current.
Proof that the River Noce is perfect for kayaking came in 1993, when the World Canoe-Kayak Sprint and Slalom Championships was hosted in Val di Sole.
Further international recognition came with 'Kayaking Holidays', the canoeing portal that added the Noce to the list of the world’s top ten rivers (the only European river) for kayaking.
All the gear you need—kayak, paddle, wetsuit, spray skirt, life-jacket, helmet and water jacket—are provided by the rafting and canoeing centres. All you need to do is wear comfortable shoes and bring a towel, change of clothes and a taste for fun.
You can also go kayaking and canoeing on very calm stretches of water, admiring the Val di Sole from an unusual perspective as you enjoy a pleasant relaxing paddle down the river. Some rafting centres in the Val di Sole offer canoe trips in nearby Val di Non, on Lake Santa Giustina, in the spectacular canyons formed by the River Novella.
